Viana do Castelo

Viana – The sea as heritage

In the heart of the Alto Minho Region, Viana do Castelo is one of the most beautiful cities in the north of Portugal.

At the mouth of the Lima river and nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountain, Viana do Castelo is a charming city filled with history and tradition. Its strong ties with river and sea have turned Viana do Castelo into a nautical city with a huge natural, cultural and archaeological heritage.

The local handicraft is famous too: the embroideries, the colourful scarfs, the hand painted ceramic, as well as the craftsmanship working with gold and turning it into the renown Filigree Viana Heart.
Viana is an engaging city with plenty of things to do, but where tranquillity and safety are key features.
