Accept our challenge – Conquer, in 5 days, the Legendary Portuguese Mountains. This is the ultimate Portuguese Mountains challenge and it will guide you along some of the most beautiful places in Northern and Central Portugal. Explore the mountains while cycling along good roads, with few cars, and enjoying the authentic scenery.  Gather a group of up to 6 friends, pick your dates and we will take care of the rest!

1st day  -  "Serra do Gerês"
Route: Hotel Feelviana- Ponte de Lima- Ponte da Barca- Lindoso- Lobios- Portela do Homem- Caldas do Geres- 120 kms / +1300 mt

We leave from FeelViana and visit Ponte de Lima and Ponte da Barca, cycling along the Lima River banks. The climb to Alto do Lindoso is long but smooth, still along the Lima River banks and until entering in Spain and getting to Lobios (village with thermal springs). The climb to Portela do Homem starts and we re-enter Portugal by crossing the heart of the Peneda Gerês National Park and the Albergaria woods. Descent to Caldas do Gerês (village with thermal springs). The Peneda-Gerês national park is a protected area, located between the Alto Minho and the Trás-os-Montes region. This cross-border route includes important historical natural landmarks and protected landscapes.

2nd day - " Alto do Larouco"
Route: Caldas do Gerês- Rio Caldo- Cerdeirinhas- Venda Nova- Barragem do Alto Rabagão- Vilarinho de Negroes- Montalegre- Alto do Larouco - 104 kms  +1600 mt

We start in the village of Caldas de Gerês and descend to Caldo River and then start the Cerdeirinhas climb (5 kms). We continue in the heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, passing through several villages and cycling the winding roads around the Cávado river. The Pisões dam is the landmark that follows. Before arriving to Montalegre, we visit the village of Vilarinho de Negrões, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Portugal. Then begins the climb to Alto do Larouco which is the 2nd highest mountain in mainland Portugal (1535 meters).


3rd day- "Monte Farinha-Senhora da Graça"
Route: Montalegre- Alturas do Barroso- Ribeira de Pena- Sra.da Graça - 99 kms / + 1950 mt

Departure from Montalegre and cycle a few kilometers along the large reservoir of Alto Rabagao. Then, we go up to the village of Alturas de Barroso. This region was classified World Agricultural Heritage by the UN, as all farming practices remains traditional. The climb to Senhora da Graça (about 8 kms), one of the most mythical climbs of the "Volta a Portugal" is the final part of this route.

 

4th day- "Serra do Alvão-Marão"
Route: Mondim de Bastos- Alvão- Campeã- Santa Marta de Penaguião- Regua-Lamego-Castro Daire -  110 kms / +1930 mt 

Departure from Mondim de Basto towards Serra do Alvão, a beautiful mountain range with scenic views where schist prevails. Near Vila Real, we enter the famous N2 (the longest national road in Europe), descend to the city of Régua, along the Douro River, in the heart of the Douro Wine Region, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. After crossing the Douro River we start the climb to Lamego in the middle of the Montemuro mountains. Castro Daire is the chosen spot for a well-deserved rest.


5th day- "Serra da Estrela"
Route: Termas dos Carvalhais- Viseu- Nelas- Seia-Sabugueiro-  Alto da Torre - 107 kms / + 2520 mts

On the last day, we head to Viseu on the N2 and the Dão Wine Region, known as the Portuguese Burgundy due to the quality of the wines produced here. In Seia, begins the climb to Alto da Torre, the highest point in mainland Portugal, with about 2000 meters of altitude. During the climb, we pass the village of Sabugueiro (the highest village in Portugal) and Lagoa Comprida, the best known and largest lagoon in Serra da Estrela.
